Pd, Schlein grappling with internal discontent: the economic stumbling block in the unitary management

ROME. After the Easter rest days for Elly Schlein the time comes for the first political confrontation with the party, the first discussion on the line since she has been secretary.

The Management will be convened shortly: the first meeting of the “little parliament” of the Schlein era should be set for Friday or for the beginning of next week and will be the first test of the stability of that “unitary management” sanctioned by the pact with Stefano Bonaccini on internal arrangements. Above all, it will be an opportunity to listen to the secretary’s line across the board, especially on economic issues. Who will have to deal with the Catholics, who are suffering from being under-represented in the secretariat, and for the battle over the registration of the children of rainbow couples.

Bonaccini himself, who is also criticized because he is considered “compliant” with the secretary, interviewed on Sunday by Repubblica said that the line on Ukraine is fine but that “even on work, businesses, growth and redistribution, the same clarity is needed”.

And last week it was Romano Prodi who recalled that “social justice must always remain the cornerstone of the left” even if “a minimum of utopia also serves reformism, which is never just accounting”.

Rainbow Families, Zanda: “A large party like ours cannot speak only of rights”

Alexander DiMatteo

Paola De Micheli, who attended the congress as a candidate to lead the Democratic Party, did not take well (like Gianni Cuperlo) the exclusion from the secretariat and now explains: “The management will help to understand the line on important issues”. The battles over rights are fundamental, but «the guarantee on that is Schlein herself, her profile. The open front is the economic and social one». Therefore, “first of all, the Democratic Party must take the lead of the opposition on the subject of the Pnrr, it is too important an issue: we must make proposals on the main issues of the plan”. And it takes “radicalism on the very dangerous effects of Calderoli’s autonomy on health care”.

But precisely the secretary will also have to allay the post-appointment jitters. Fausto Raciti, from the Orfini area, complained on Facebook about the key roles entrusted to exponents who come from outside: “In the secretariat, and the courage of the choices must be recognized, there are also some members of the Democratic Party”. And Stefano Lepri, a former deputy, expects a clarification on rainbow families: «The management is the most suitable place to discuss it, we will have our say».
