“If we do not find a common basis of values ​​between different positions that have manifested themselves in our party in recent years, we can also risk a split”, says the mayor of Florence. As for his candidacy as leader of the Democratic Party, he adds: “It will come when the time comes, when the various political options in the field will mature”.

In the meantime, the first thing the Democratic Party needs “is to rediscover its identity and its autonomy, its strength. If we do not immediately open a discussion on these issues and instead start with the race to apply or to support candidates without having a clear idea of ​​our own horizon, we risk giving a blank proxy to the secretary, whoever he is, and handing him over a party without soul and identity, a boat full of holes that is sinking. Thus we risk yet another leader who lasts a year and who resigns or abandons the field – observes the mayor of Florence – the Democratic Party risks sinking, there is a risk.
