As expected, Letta proposed February 19 as the date for the primaries: “These are certain times with the benefit of taking stock for reasons that do not concern us,” he specified. “There are regional elections in Lombardy, Lazio and Molise which will be fixed in February, on a still unidentified date. A certain flexibility is therefore needed”. The decision to hold a congress, Letta underlined, has already been made: “We are applying a political decision taken a few weeks ago, now we have to make the statutory changes”.

Letta claimed the candidacies in Lazio and Lombardy: “We start having built coalitions around us and with two candidacies, D’Amato in Lazio and Majorino in Lombardy, which are ambitious and which are the only alternative to the right”.

“We are not an electoral committee”

The Pd, said the secretary, needs “responsibility”: “We are a party that believes we should be a community, a party that decides collectively and not ten people who listen to the boss and he decides. We are a community that decides together and there is a need for great responsibility and the ability to love our community. A community party and not a personal party or electoral committee. If we want to be something else, we must live up to this”.
