During the assembly of Pd senators, at Palazzo Madama, the secretary proposed Francesco Boccia as the new team leader.
“There could be many candidates for the presidency of the group here in the Senate. – said Schlein presenting the candidacy – There are many valid people able to carry out this role adequately. My proposal to the parliamentary group, for the solidity, political ability and experience, is Francesco Boccia”.
The secretary also spoke of the method adopted in the party by reaffirming the collaboration with the minority leader Stefano Bonaccini. “We are working on an overall and balanced structure, respectful of pluralism and the outcome of the primaries. – Schlein said at the group assembly – For this reason we are often speaking in these hours also with Stefano Bonaccini. Within a few days I intend to close the structures and go back to building together with our democratic community alternative political proposals to the right and to talk about issues that affect people’s lives”.
Simona Malpezzi, announcing her resignation as group leader, did not fail to underline that she would have preferred an internal confrontation and not a debate in the newspapers. “Secretary Schlein – Malpezzi said as he opened the meeting – asked us for the trust necessary to work all together: I agree and I add that this trust must be mutual because we don’t know each other yet and we have to give each other time. We need the will to get to know each other and recognizing each other in the differences that are our wealth”.
At the end of the assembly at Palazzo Madama Francesco Boccia he was elected group leader by acclamation. The assembly of dem deputies will start shortly.
