It’s not Hyde Park in London – with the historic “speaker’s corner”, the public corner of the speakers – and not even a square from the 1970s. But, simply, the square of the Belvedere of San Leucio in Caserta. It’s here, Stefano Bonaccini, the governor of Emilia Romagna, but in Campania for his electoral tour as a candidate for the national secretariat of the Democratic Party, has made a virtue of necessity. He was supposed to meet party militants in an internal room of the historic former silk factory in Caserta. But they were too many, over 500 people. Then he decided to stay outdoors. «I get on a chair for everyone to hear me – he said amused – like in the rallies of the 70s».
Basic income
Bonaccini immediately addressed the issue of basic income, a sensitive topic, together with employment and security, in Campania. “We need a South in which policies are not only welfare-based as they do not create the future – he pointed out – but are policies that increase investments, in infrastructure, in industry, in work: for this reason I have always defended basic income, because the State has a duty to grant something to those who are poor or in difficulty that allows us to get to the end of the month ».
The South
The support system, for the candidate for the dem secretariat, has had positive results. «What hasn’t worked – he said – is the other part of active labor policies. We need to put in place policies that allow those who have lost their jobs to get it back or to those who have never found it able to do it. Work is one of the first forms of dignity that politics should guarantee to people. The South has enormous potential, but we have to shorten the distances from other parts of the country, avoiding going at different speeds. Italy will be able to express its potential only when the South has made up for some delays; there are so many extraordinary things that this beautiful land has, it must be accompanied so that opportunities are guaranteed”.
The alliances
Center-left alliances are another crucial issue. «We have no foreclosures towards anyone – reflects Bonaccini – but at the same time we cannot choose someone to replace someone else: the programs will tell if we can be together. The congress serves to clarify our identity, once this is specified we can speak of alliances. In this country it has always happened that alliances in the territories do not always coincide with the national ones. We have alliances to make for the coming months and years. The first stage will be that of the Europeans, and there you vote with the proportional system, after which we have many administrative elections, where alliances are necessary because no one thinks of winning alone. But alliances are not made at the table, they are made on plans, on the idea of a local future. Citizens, in that case, choose beyond the alliances, they choose whether you are able to offer a program that gains their trust».
