Over a thousand signatures for the appeal of the women of the Democratic Party: "Let's anticipate the congress"

The Democratic Party is a visionary political project, which has thrilled us from the first moment and for which many of us have decided to actively commit ourselves. The Democratic Party is our home, which over the years we have built with care and passion, rejoicing in successes and patiently putting together the pieces of failures. We don’t resign ourselves to the fear of losing this house, and we don’t accept seeing it reduced to rubble. With us are certainly the thousand citizens and citizens, members, administrators and administrators who signed the petition we promoted in just a few days. People who want to believe and be enthusiastic again, who ask for courage and generosity.

We believe that the Democratic Party needs an authentic regeneration from the ground up, in the engineering of the supporting structure and in the architecture of its form. Such a regeneration cannot be exhausted by the urgent congressional passage, which we have also requested.

In fact, we think it is necessary to act in two phases to be put on solid foundations at the same time and with the utmost urgency: that of the immediate time, to restore impetus and enthusiasm also through the identification of a new leadership, and that of the slow time needed to heal the wound, regenerate the body tissues and make the scar the most beautiful embroidery in our history. This initiative was born not by chance from a group of women: administrators, deputies, professionals, workers, university professors, members; all of them have always been involved in the life of the party; women who have different histories but who have decided to work together for our community of democrats and democrats. Where there is to generate and nourish, it is women who do not act in solitude: where there is a daughter, there is a mother, and where there is a mother, there is a grandmother or a midwife, in a chain of substance which is life. In fact, this collective was born autonomously to give space to the conference debate and to contribute to a regenerative process that requires a slower time. We do not intend to die in the suffocation of a congressional agreement with the candidate of the moment, nor to circulate currents now without air. Currents no longer linked to a thought but aimed solely at self-preservation for the few. In the plural founding spirit of the Democratic Party, this community of women remains open to those who share its constructive spirit for our entire community and want to contribute to being the driving force for a Democratic Party that is the center of gravity of a progressive and reformist coalition; a party regenerated by the participation of members who, we believe, must have a primary voice in defining congressional rules. A Party capable of reading society and anticipating its changes, with answers and proposals that are appropriate to the complexity of the times we live in.

Politics is care, and the flowering of the Democratic Party from the seeds of our constituent identity is the way to design a modern and welcoming country, capable of growing sustainably starting from its best resources of art, culture, science, nature, ability creativity and entrepreneurial ingenuity. We believe it is urgent to keep listening to the people who experience the many dimensions of insecurity in local communities at the center of the political agenda: work, economic, social, health, and who experience educational, emotional, and cultural fragility.

We affirm the need, which can no longer be postponed, to implement the conditions for women’s intelligence, skills and work to be considered as a powerful resource for Italy. We are the majority in the country and we believe that we no longer need to be treated as a minority, not even within the Democratic Party and if the women’s question is an element that characterizes us for us, we must carry it forward with determination, without using women as a mirror for larks perhaps by placing them at the head of the list in more colleges and thus facilitating men in deeds and numbers. Female empowerment must be declined in the desire to create the conditions for women to be free to self-determination, to advance without having to take steps backwards caused by regulatory or cultural obstacles. We don’t need to beg for anything: we need a clear strategy and concrete actions above all to support women in work and in the care activity, still all on their shoulders.

We consider education from the first months of life, and its continuous innovation of contents and methods, the best investment for the country’s economy, to prepare girls and boys for their future. To do this, however, we think it is essential to fight all forms of discrimination and violence in all its online and offline forms. We are convinced that girls and boys must grow up in safety and beauty, and that this is the absolute measure of a functioning city. We observe that these investments fall on deaf ears, if not accompanied by job opportunities for young women and men, which correspond to their dreams and abilities, and represent the necessary basis for designing their own life project. Work is the first true form of social emancipation and a decent wage makes every person free to choose and to self-determinate even with respect to situations of abuse, injustice and harassment. Also for this reason, those who are not able to work should be given an income for social inclusion and active policies and lifelong learning that can actually be used. Just as businesses and those who want to continue doing business must be supported: the reduction of labor costs, the fight against bureaucracy and incentives for those who invest in research and development must be among our priorities. We want a Democratic Party that knows how to fight inequalities with innovative proposals that start from the involvement and listening of our mayors and local administrators. We think that the protection of environmental resources is an indispensable condition for sustainable economic development over time, and that scientific and technological research that feeds on scientific humanism is the best investment to find new solutions to new challenges concerning care and well-being of people of all ages. We see in the ability to create innovations the close connection between everyone’s freedom and the guarantee of everyone’s rights. We believe that the Democratic Party must identify itself in a stronger, more cohesive, efficient, authoritative Europe; a Europe that is an engine of development and integration, a protagonist in governing the conflicts that are widespread on the planet, promoting the value of peace and the rule of law inside and outside the Union.

We believe in the value of sisterhood and for this we want a Democratic Party capable of defending the rights and freedoms of those women in the world who have no voice or face: think of the Afghan women, the women of Saudi Arabia and finally the extraordinary women of the Iran who are willing to sacrifice their lives against the inequalities that all dictatorships feed.

For these reasons and for those indicated in the text of the Petition, which has already reached more than a thousand signatures, we reiterate the vital need for our party to shorten the congressional times and, for these reasons

LET’S ASK

that the primaries that will close the congressional phase are held in early 2023.
