Women’s option, early retirement for a few

In 2023 there are likely to be just over two thousand women who will be able to take advantage of the women’s option to retire early, taking into account the tightening introduced by the 2023 Maneuver. With the old requirements, which provided for 58 years of age and 35 for contributions for workers in the public sector and 59 for those in the private sector, in the next three years the potential female option beneficiaries would have been around 40 thousand: 23 thousand in 2023, 17 thousand in 2024 and 6 thousand in 2025. Given that the other early retirement benefits have higher and fewer women are able to access them, those who submit requests for the women’s option have increased in recent years, as confirmed by the INPS data relating to 2022. But the increase in requests collides with the fact that the 2023 Maneuver introduced more stringent requirements. To the point that, according to technical sources heard from Corriere della Sera, we went from an audience of 40,000 potential beneficiaries to 5,100 in the three-year period 2023-2025, half of which in 2023, i.e. approximately 2,500. Over the three-year period, the pool of potential beneficiaries is therefore reduced by approximately 87% with the new requirements.
