Open letter from the leader to the premier: we have strong opposition for the good of the country

«Today will be the first truly operational Council of Ministers and therefore the signals given to the entire national community on what the Government really intends to do will be important. I made it clear that ours will be a tough and intransigent opposition, specifying however that it will always be aimed at pursuing the well-being of citizens and guaranteeing the interest of the country “: Giuseppe Conte writes in an open letter to Giorgia Meloni.

In the speech published on social media by the star-studded president various issues are addressed, starting with the pandemic. “Regarding Covid management, I ask you to present to the country an organic, sustainable and effective plan to deal with the probable resurgence in the coming months,” writes Conte. And he continues :. “I am the first to say that we need an update of the measures and that the current response cannot follow the restrictive measures adopted in the hardest period of the pandemic”. “However, it is important that decisions are not made on the wave of demagogic prejudices, but continue to be anchored to scientific evidence and criteria, according to the principles of adequacy and proportionality, making data accessible and transparent so that decisions are always subject to verification. and confrontation by experts and public opinion ”, adds the leader.

«The decision to intervene on the life sentence, given the imminent deadline that the Constitutional Court has set for November 8, it is a positive rethinking matured by his party, which abstained on this point in the past legislature, ”Conte affirms. But he asks for other clarifications: «A clear position on the interventions of the police forces against the battered students at La Sapienza University would then be appropriate, despite the fact that they were defenseless and had not adopted clearly violent behavior. Allowing everyone full freedom of expression is the foundation of democracy, we are convinced of that. However, the ways in which this freedom is guaranteed are not indifferent but rather qualify the concrete democratic figure of a society ”.
