Nordio in the Senate: “Eavesdropping on the mafia and terrorism will not be touched. Bosses don’t talk on the phone”

“The difference between interceptions aimed at finding evidence and those which themselves become evidence cannot be clarified enough.” The Keeper Charles Nordio speaks in the Senate, and starts immediately from wiretapping to open his first report on the state of justice in Italy. Tomorrow he will reply to the Chamber. But the highlight is the interceptions in the midst of the controversy that exploded after the arrest of Matthew Messina Money. And in the clash between the guarantors of the majority – Forza Italia – and the more justicialists, such as the Brothers of Italy, starting with the Melonian undersecretary in via Arenula Andrea Del Mastro Delle Vedove. The League closer to the melonians than to the forzisti. But here is the Nordio-thought.

The interceptions

Nordio immediately clarifies his thoughts on wiretapping. And he clears the field of controversy. “In recent days I have listened to what Shakespeare says, namely that it will never be reiterated enough that there will be no reforms that will affect interceptions on the mafia and terrorism”. And again: “The difference between interceptions that aim at finding proof and those that themselves become proof” will never be clarified enough. And here comes the first round of applause from the assembly.

Nordio continues. “When I say that mafiosi don’t talk on the phone, I am referring to the fact that no mafioso has ever expressed his will to commit a crime or has expressed words that are proof of a crime in progress or in progress or still planned”. Nordio goes on: “The interceptions are used to follow the movements of people suspected of links to crime, terrorism and very serious crimes. They are used to understand the hidden relationships that bind people”.

Nordio then reiterates that he considers the preventive interceptions carried out by the secret services and never appearing in the newspapers as “indispensable”. And then he reiterates his lunge against the diffusion of ratings: “The interceptions involving people not under investigation are another thing, who, through a mechanism of controlled disclosure, offend citizens who are not in the least involved in the investigation.
