How many ministers are there?
The Italian ministries to date are 15, but the number of nominees is always higher because the so-called ministries without portfolio must be added, for example those for Relations with Parliament or Regional Affairs. Therefore the numerical consistency of the new government can vary according to the choices of the political leaders.

But how does the nomination process work? Once the presidents of the Chamber and Senate have been elected, the President of the Republic usually convenes the consultations. If the elections for presidents go smoothly, the window for consultations could open as early as 17-18 October. Always as usual, the former presidents of the Republic go up to the Quirinale (in this case there could be a phone call with the president emeritus Giorgio Napolitano), the two newly elected presidents and the representatives of the parties present in Parliament. Usually the group leaders are heard, to which party leaders normally join.
If the result is clear, the consultations are quick, two or three days, and are concluded with the appointment of a Prime Minister within a few hours of the conclusion.
The list of ministers
Once the President of the Republic gives the office to the Prime Minister, he usually accepts conditionally and conducts his ‘consultations’ with parties willing to support his executive. We begin to form a program and draw up a list of ministers. In the face of a net result, these ‘consultations’ are usually concluded in one or two days.
If the consultations of the prime minister in charge are successful, he returns to the Quirinale, dissolves the reserve and is appointed prime minister. When there is a prime minister in charge, the president will exercise Article 92 of the Constitution which very simply provides for the appointment of ministers by the head of state on the proposal of the prime minister.

The oath
The day after or even a few hours after the dissolution of the reserve, the Prime Minister and the ministers swear an oath at the Quirinale in the hands of the President of the Republic.
