Nardella launches the motion of the Pd administrators, but (for now) is not a candidate

In Rome “idee Pd”, the convention organized by the mayor of Florence to relaunch the party with the protagonism of the mayors: “We want to affect. No more card lords, no more currents. Schlein or Bonaccini? They are not the third way”. Meanwhile Ricci stays at the window. New braking by Conte on Majorino in Lombardy

Democratic Party, motion administrators. The candidate is not there yet – and it is not certain that he will be there in the end – but the intentions are clear: prepare and organize, “to impact” in view of the Congress, “to build a new home and a new leadership”. Whether with Bonaccini, or against, we’ll see. The words are those of Dario Nardella, but they sum up well the feelings of many dem mayors. The mayor of Florence has not dissolved the reserves, takes time and has not yet announced whether he will run for the secretariat. But in the meantime he launched yesterday, at the Quattro Fontane theater in Rome, “idee Pd”, a convention that he knows of a programmatic platform.

Schlein or Bonaccini? ” I am not the third way, I work to unite. We are applying to bring ideas and to build a new democratic community with patience and sacrifice which is so much needed”, Nardella told the audience, made up of many administrators, in the presence and remote. And in addition to them there were also many other members of the so-called ‘Roman’ Pd, interested spectators and still uncertain about which match to play towards the primaries of 19 February. There were for example Peppe Provenzano and Marco Furfaro for the leftmost area of the partythe Franciscans Michela DeBiase And Alberto Losaccothe group leader in the EU and animator of the youth of ‘Coraggio Pd’, Brando Benifei and the most faithful Lettian Marco Meloni. He logged in Michele Emiliano and also the archistar We Maximize Fuksas, because “we have to open the doors wide to anyone who wants to bring some water”, as Nardella underlined. At the center there must be the protagonism of the mayors and administrators, the other fil rouge of the Roman morning. Then the exhortation: “No more lords of cards, no more currents“. Words that follow those used by Stefano Bonaccini, when he announced his candidacy a few days ago, saying no to the support of the currents. Although, Guerini’s reformist base and Matteo Orfini’s young Turks are ready to support him.

An overlap of themes and words that seems to suggest that in the end the mayor of Florence can follow in Bonaccini’s wake, avoiding the clash. Yesterday the governor of Emilia Romagna was not there (not even Elly Schlein was seen, whose prices have fallen slightly in the last few hours) but the two should meet in the next few days. Matteo Ricci, the mayor of Pesaro who has been on a tour of Italy in recent weeks, could also be part of the game. He is the coordinator of the dem administrators and has been among the most active, for weeks, in claiming the role of the mayors: “We’re tired of pats on the back”: “This time we’ll take care of national politics too”. Not even Ricci, however, has yet revealed his cards, he’s stalling. Perhaps waiting for a signal from the ex-minister Andrew Orlando, who meditates together with his where and how to position himself. The hypothesis has also been advanced in recent days Enzo Amendolaif not to win the congress at least to count, to pull the axis of the party to the left.

The road to the congress is still long. Nardella compared it to a marathon, “not a lightning race”, indicating in an interview with La Stampa that “the real next political step, the test for Meloni, will be the European Championships in 2024”. And by then the Democratic Party will have to be ready and regenerated, he says. Kind of the same thesis supported by Bonaccini in the interview given to Repubblica on Sunday.

But in the meantime there are the regional elections and the cross veto system by the M5s and the Third Pole which complicate any possibility of an alliance. And if in Lazio for the moment there is an agreement with the third pole on the name of D’Amato, in Lombardy the uncertainties are even greater. Pierfrancesco Majorino it seemed like a name capable of attracting Grillino’s interest, and signs of openness were not lacking. But yesterday Giuseppe Conte braked again: “The question of programs should be set aside. For us, the contents are valid. We don’t make electoral signs”.
