Municipal elections: turnout still declining, so far only 14% have voted

While the vote for the municipal elections is underway, the first partial data of the turnout is recorded at 12, which is down to 14%. In fact, 14.19% of eligible voters voted, compared to the previous elections in which 19.33% of eligible voters had voted. The turnout data has so far been recorded in 5,371 sections out of a total of 5,426 throughout Italy. The administrative electoral consultations for the election of mayors and municipal councils are held today from 7 to 23 and Monday 15 from 7 to 15. The possible run-off round will take place on 28 and 29 May 2023.

The electoral round will involve 595 municipalities for a number of voters equal to 4,587,877 (of which 402,967 abroad) distributed over 5,426 sections. In particular, we vote for 13 provincial capitals, of which one regional capital (Ancona) and 12 provincial capitals (Brescia, Sondrio, Treviso, Vicenza, Imperia, Massa, Pisa, Siena, Terni, Latina, Teramo, Brindisi). The round of local elections in spring 2023 will be completed on 21 May with the elections scheduled in Valle d’Aosta (one municipality) and Trentino Alto Adige (three municipalities) and on 28 and 29 May with the elections in Sicily (128 municipalities) and Sardinia (39 municipalities).
