Municipal elections, turnout down on the first day: today the verdicts – Corriere.it

Even the first day of opening of the polls for the municipal authorities confirms the trend of the latest consultations. Turnout down: it was 14.21% at 12, rising to 37.22% at 19. There are several points of decline compared to 2018 (over six), although it should be remembered that at the time votes were only held on Sundays, while this time the citizens of the 595 Municipalities called to decide who will be the mayor who will govern them can take advantage of the polling stations open even today from 7 to 15.

Then the scrutiny will begin and, taking note of a constant disaffection towards of the polls (whether for political or administrative elections), the spotlights will turn on above all on the thirteen provincial capitals. The citizens directly involved will look first of all at the outcome, but attention will also be high on the part of those who are in Rome to obtain information on the state of health of their respective parties and coalitions. At the starting line the ratio, considering the outgoing majorities, of 8 capitals expression of the center-right (Vicenza, Sondrio, Treviso, Imperia, Massa, Pisa, Siena and Terni) and 5 of the center-left (Brescia, Ancona, Latina, Teramo and Brindisi) .

The most politically sensitive cities are 5. In Ancona, the only regional capital al vote, the battle promises to be fierce. Brothers of Italy, Lega and Forza Italia want to wrest the Municipality from the opposing coalition that has governed it for the last ten years with Valeria Mancinelli (Pd) and which now supports Ida Simonella. The challenge entrusted to the forzista Daniele Silvetti.

Brescia also presents itself to the vote having behind it the ten-year government of a dem mayor, Emilio Del Bono. The centre-left is playing the game under the banner of continuity, pushing for the promotion to the most important seat of the Palazzo della Loggia of the outgoing deputy mayor Laura Castelletti. The centre-right, on the other hand, associates its chances of success with the name of Fabio Rolfi, former Northern League deputy mayor from 2008 to 2013 and former regional councilor for agriculture.

In Vicenza the situation is politically reversed. Here the outgoing mayor Francesco Rucco (centre-right) while the challenger is the dem Giacomo Possamai who aims to repeat the operation that a year ago led Damiano Tommasi to win in nearby Verona by exploiting the divisions that have existed in the majority that has governed the city in the last five years.

Also keep an eye on the results that will come out of the polls in Siena and Pisa. Two realities historically governed by the left but which more recently ended up in the orbit of the other side. In the city of the Palio, the center-right did not confirm the outgoing mayor Luigi De Mossi and preferred to focus on Nicoletta Fabio. The center-left has in turn decided to rely on a female face, that of Anna Ferretti (Pd). In Pisa, one of the few squares in which the dem and Cinque Stelle managed to reach an agreement, the Giallorossi front represented by Paolo Martinelli, who has the task of snatching the seat from the outgoing mayor Michele Conti.

But each in its own way, even the matches in Sondrio, Treviso, Massa, Terni, Brindisi and Latina deserve attention. Like little Imperia where the former Interior Minister Claudio Scajola remains on track for a reconfirmation.
