SHOES. Pecco Bagnaia won his third sprint race of the season, and on the eve of the Mugello GP – which will see him start from pole tomorrow – he consolidates his first place in the standings with a 4-point lead over the other Ducati rider Bezzecchi, second today. Martin also climbs the podium: the Spaniard precedes the French Zarco and Marini. There are 5 red bikes in front of everyone, very poker: another small, great triumph for the Borgo Panigale company, which also welcomes Bastianini’s return to the track, 9th. Marc Marquez, the protagonist of a lively controversy with Bagnaia in qualifying, after the start was still glued to the wheels of the world champion but a robust attack by the Australian Miller made him lose several positions: the Cannibal finished only 7th . But be careful: tomorrow he will start from the front row right next to Pecco in a race that promises great emotions.

Pecco celebrates: “How beautiful it is, at Mugello!”

“How beautiful it is, at Mugello!”: Pecco celebrates while the public sings the Mameli anthem. “I really enjoyed myself today,” smiles the Piedmontese. “It wasn’t easy at first: it was windy and suddenly it started raining heavily, I got worried. But I knew my pace was strong, the weather sorted itself out and I managed the race. Bez was very competitive, I didn’t give him the chance to try and overtake me.” Bezzecchi is also happy: “It was a fantastic race, he had a good pace: unfortunately in qualifying I wasn’t fast enough to earn a better place on the grid. Very happy with the result, now let’s focus on tomorrow’s race”. Nice podium for Martin, now 3rd also in the standings: “Good race, Pecco had more. In the end I managed to keep Zarco behind: it went very well, let’s hope the Italians calm down a bit tomorrow,” he jokes.

An overtaking by Miller, and Marquez slips behind

Pecco started from pole and immediately took the lead, while Alex Marquez ended up in the gravel at the first hairpin after an “irresponsible” attack by Binder (which was punished with a long lap penalty). A brief, intense rain made us think about a possible change of bikes in the pits, but it lasted a few moments: the Spanish Martin took advantage of the confusion for a couple of laps, before Bagnaia got back in front. Marc Marquez at the start was still glued to the world champion’s wheel, but a robust overtaking by Miller made him slip back. Halfway through the sprint race, the Bagnaia-Bezzecchi pair returned, just like in the standings: behind them, two other Ducatis (Martin, Zarco), with Bastianini who, returning after a long absence, settled well (8th) between Cannibal and Aleix Espargarò’s Aprilia.

Aleix Espargarò (Aprilia) is 8th, the Yamahas are bad

In the final, Bagnaia managed an advantage of 3 tenths and something over his friend from the Academy, who in turn had a good half second on Martin’s KTM. Miller finished in 6th place ahead of Marc Marquez with his Honda, good Bastianini. Two points for a bruised Aleix Espargarò with Aprilia, while teammate Vinales (13th) always remained in the rear. Another bitter disappointment for the Yamahas: Quartararo is 10th, over 6 seconds away (!), Morbidelli even further away, 16th.
