At the last dive the resolution defining the purchase of the Terme di Montecatini was approved. According to the bill, the Tettuccio establishments, Regina and Excelsior will be bought for 16.4 million euros by the Tuscany Region, which is also the majority shareholder of the Terme Spa company (together with the Montecatini municipality). A complex operation, possible only in the face of a cultural heritage enhancement project, and at the same time necessary to save it from bankruptcy. Indeed, tomorrow the company must appear before the bankruptcy judge with the definitive composition plan, hoping it will be accepted. Doing it without this resolution would have been a gamble: for this reason, a little tension had risen in the face of a couple of postponements. Technical times due to the approval of the budget, they let the junta know. The text ensures the maintenance of the thermal function and speaks of a transformation of the Excelsior into a cultural and exhibition center with a particular vocation for enhancing the Alinari collection.

Despite the opposition of the mayor of Florence Dario Nardellathe idea is to exhibit the part of the photographic heritage (owned by the Region) which now stops in a warehouse in Sesto with a series of thematic exhibitions. Even the governor Eugenio Giani had talked about making Montecatini a city of Tuscan photography and also of cinema, with the museum dedicated to digital. In the meantime – he said yesterday – we have tackled the first step, the acquisition of the “containers”: we are securing the most important part of the Unesco Heritage which is of concern to all the institutions and the community. Then we will continuously start the construction of the cultural project with the aim of reorganizing and relaunching the Montecatini destination together with all the Tuscan thermalism. There is the opportunity to create an exhibition space, to engage in cultural activities and to bring the Alinari collection.

The spas had accumulated 38 million euros of debt. To pay the creditors, in addition to the 16.4 million from the Region, there are also the approximately 2 million from the Cassa di Risparmio di Pistoia and Pescia Foundation, and 1.5 from the Municipality of Montecatini which bought the Torretta plant. Not finished: the August visit of the then Minister of Tourism Massimo Garavaglia produced a loan of 12 million euros which must be approved next week. As explained by the senator of the League Claudio Borghi, the amendments reported to the aid decree are closed and for Tuscany there is an important one to manage the crisis of the spas. There is talk of an extraordinary ministerial contribution of 2 million for 2022 and 10 million for 2023. If for the Redi, where the curative part takes place, continuity is guaranteed by the management entrusted to the Red Cross, the rest of the money owed to creditors it will be obtained by putting the remaining properties up for sale.
