European stock markets cautious after the weak session on the eve with the only exception of Milan, which opened the semester up after closing the first half of the year as the best market in Europe with a +19%. Piazza Affari, which on 3 July updated its maximum since September 2008, rises by 0.25% at the start. The markets open trading cautiously, on a day that sees Wall Street closed for Independence Day celebrations. Paris and Frankfurt are just above parity, +0.15% Amsterdam and -0.12% Madrid (here real-time update).

The main energy sources (Enel +1.2%, Eni +0.19%) and Tim with +0.50% were positive on the Milan Stock Exchange. Among the industrialists Stellantis at +0.42% despite the drop in registrations, Pirelli marks +0.15% and Leonardo +0.24%. Finally, as regards financials, Intesa +0.37%, Mediobanca +0.45%, Generali +0.16% and Unicredit at +0.07%.

Currencies and energy

The euro opens slightly down (-0.11%) against the dollar at 1.0897. The common currency also slightly lost ground against the pound (-0.08%) at 0.8590 and against the yen (-0.16%) at 157.63. Dollar/yen exchange rate equal to 144.58. As regards raw materials, the price of oil rose, with Brent at 75.09 dollars a barrel, while natural gas remained at its previous levels, at 34.23 euros MWh.
