Mihajlovic plays another year in the Red Star, then the war and the courtship of Rome take him to the Italian championship for the first time, at 23 years old. Two seasons, still as a midfielder, without too much glory. Another turning point in Sinisa’s career will be the relationship with Sven Goran Eriksson. Over the years at Sampdoria, the Swedish coach put him back in defence. 4 years and then, together, Erisskon and Mihajlovic are called to Rome, this time on the Lazio side, by Sergio Cragnotti. It was the start of the most satisfying moment for the player Mihajlovic: inserted in one of the strongest teams in the history of the Italian championship, he lost the 1999 Scudetto to Milan in a sprint finish (in that season he would set the record for hat-tricks of goals from free kicks in the 5-2 against Sampdoria), but won the Italian flag on the last day of the famous Sunday in Perugia, the second in the history of Lazio. With the Yugoslav national team he took part in the 1998 World Championship and the 2000 European Championship, collecting a total of 63 appearances and 9 goals.
