ROME – “An important challenge begins for us, as the Italian Republic”. It is the southernmost place in Europe. “It is here where migrants are welcomed and it must be the flagship as regards the treatment of human beings: of the men, women and children who arrive – said the Migrant Emergency Commissioner Valerio Valenti – we are We are proud to be able to work with the Government on this challenge and we thank you for the trust that the Commissioner structure has placed in us. We really want to work to give a human footprint to the migratory phenomenon. Since last January 9, when I took office as Head of the Department for civil liberties and immigration of the Viminale, I launched specific activities aimed at improving the response to the migratory phenomenon that weighs on Lampedusa.
