The minister: the management of the migratory phenomenon is a long-term challenge

We had important negotiations on the issues of managing the migrant question, also from a European point of view, a very important challenge in which Italy sees Europe concretely at its side and which will involve us in the coming years. There are no miraculous solutions, but we are building a more orderly management of this phenomenon that brings together humanitarian and security aspects such as human trafficking. Combating trafficking in human beings is our first objective, also an objective of Europe: this was stated by Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi speaking at a press conference at the end of his visit to the Lampedusa hotspot together with the European Commissioner for Internal Affairs Ylva Johansson

“We know very well that the management of the migratory phenomenon is a very important challenge and Italy sees Europe concretely at its side but this challenge will keep us busy in the coming months and years because there are no immediate solutions”, claims the owner of the Interior Ministry.

I want to thank Ylva Johansson, the European Commissioner for Internal Affairs, because it is the first time that a European Commissioner has come here to Lampedusa. We see it as a sign of Europe’s closeness to the problems of Italy and Lampedusa, to the countries of first arrival of migrants. a concrete presence that of Ylva Johansson which was preceded and will also be followed by concrete acts that the European commission is putting in place to support Italy in this delicate task of being a country of first entry, argues Piantedosi.
