The Forza Italia MEP had presented a question to the EU Commission. Meta “blocked” her because the surname “Mussolini” would have violated community policies

Forza Italia MEP Alessandra Mussolini made it known via a video message posted on Twitter that she had received an apology from Meta, the parent company of Facebook and also of Instagram, which allowed her to open her own account. This morning, Mussolini had released statements to the press and sent a question to the European Commission, to denounce the refusal of the social platform to allow her to open an account with her surname, that would violate community policies. «They got in touch with me and apologized for the inefficiency, because there was a misunderstanding. They opened my Instagram account. Victory!», Mussolini declared in the video on Twitter.

The deputy head of delegation of Forza Italia in the European Parliament, nephew of Duce Benito, had presented a question to the European Commission to denounce the fact of not being able to register on Instagram with the first and last name. The surname “Mussolini”, in fact, would have violated the community policies. “I don’t change my surname for Instagram, it’s a prejudice that becomes violence,” he said. And then: “Given that registration on online platforms is essential for the performance of the political and communication action of the members of the European Parliament, I have decided to address the Commission to raise a question regarding a violation of my rights”.
