After the umpteenth tragedy of the sea, while the landings continue and the controversies continue, the government is once again dealing with the migrant dossier. This morning Giorgia Meloni convened a summit at Palazzo Chigi with the interior minister Matteo Piantedosithe owner of the Defense Guido Crosetto and transport colleagues via video link Matthew Salvini and Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani. However, executive sources let it be known that the focus of the meeting was not only on the migrant dossier, but also on other topics, starting with the security issue in general.

Meanwhile, while the accusations against the government for the Cutro massacre, where on February 26 a boat of migrants sank causing 78 confirmed victims, Minister Crosetto raises the alarm hypothesizing infiltrations of Wagner’s Russian mercenaries in African countries. “It seems to me – argues the exponent of FdI – that by now we can say that the exponential increase in the migratory phenomenon that starts from the African coasts is also, to a not indifferent extent, part of a clear strategy of hybrid warfare that the Wagner division, mercenaries in the pay of Russia, is implementing, using its relevant weight in some African countries”.

For this reason, he continues, “the EU, NATO and the West, just as they realized that cyber attacks were part of the global confrontation that the Ukrainian conflict has opened, today it would be appropriate for them to understand that the southern European front is also becoming more dangerous every day” . Furthermore, “they should also take note that uncontrolled and continuous immigration, added to the economic and social crisis, becomes a way of hitting the most exposed countries, above all Italy, and their clear and sharp geostrategic choices”.

From this it follows, concludes Crosetto, that “the Atlantic alliance – consolidates if we also share the problems that arise from collective choices, but risks cracking if the countries most exposed to retaliation of various kinds (such as opening the ‘taps’ of immigration by some States) are left alone”.
