ROME. «Istat data continue to certify the constant growth of employment, with the unemployment rate at its lowest since 2009. Encouraging news that encourages us to do even better, for an Italy that is once again growing, working, creating wealth and Aim high”. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni writes it on Facebook.

This morning Meloni also remembered the Italian fallen in Somalia. “Thirty years have passed since the tragic battle of ‘Checkpoint Pasta’ in Mogadishu”, writes the premier in a note. «On 2 July 1993, Somali militiamen attacked a column of the Italian national contingent engaged in the mission conducted under UN auspices to guarantee the arrival of humanitarian aid to the people of Somalia, reduced to hunger and suffering by the power struggle between tribal factions. Three young and valiant Italian soldiers – Second Lieutenant Andrea Millevoi, Sergeant Major Stefano Paolicchi and Corporal Pasquale Baccaro – fell victims of the attack. Thirty-two others were injured, some of them very seriously. One of them, Lieutenant Colonel Gianfranco Paglia, lost the use of his legs but in recent years he has never let go of his commitment to keep alive the memory of what happened and of his fellow soldiers ». The prime minister recalls: «On the thirtieth anniversary of that tragic event, the government honors the memory of the fallen and warmly embraces their families and loved ones. Today – adds the premier – we reiterate our thanks to all the soldiers who serve the country and the institutions and keep the tricolor high in the world, even putting their lives at risk in the performance of duty and to help bring peace, security and stability in the most complex scenarios».
