Meloni in CDM, Schlein in Portella della Ginestra: the 1st of May of politics

Government May Day for Giorgia Meloni. May Day of memory for Elly Schlein. The premier meets the Council of Ministers at 11 to approve the Labor decree which, among other things, will reduce the basic income. The secretary of the Democratic Party is instead in Sicily, in Portella della Ginestra, to remember the massacre of May 1, 1947, when 11 people were killed and another twenty-seven injured by Salvatore Giuliano’s gang.

Russia in Sicily

In Sicily also the president of the Senate, Ignatius the Russian, to lay a wreath at the foot of the stele in memory of the fallen at work, in Paternò, in the province of Catania (his city of origin). Mattarella and the alarm on job insecurity

The president of the Republic Sergio Mattarella instead he brought forward the appointment with Workers’ Day, visiting the mechatronics district of Reggio Emilia on Saturday, from where he raised the alarm against precariousness, defining it a “system that clashes with the goals of growth and development”.

This May Day stumbles into the electoral campaign for the administrative elections which, by the end of the month, will call the residents of almost 800 Municipalities to vote, including seventeen capital cities, from Brindisi to Brescia, from Pisa to Ancona. The secretary of the Democratic Party Schlein, engaged in a series of rallies in Sicily, from Ragusa to Syracuse and Catania, has launched a harsh attack on the decree on work which will be passed by the Council of Ministers on Workers’ Day: «It is a provocation unbearable. It steals the future from the next generations and is a sentence condemning precariousness,” said the secretary of the Democratic Party when interviewed by La Stampa. If the eve is electoral, for Schlein May 1st is a memorial: “We made the choice to be at the Portella della Ginestra – he said in Ragusa -, to remember the barbaric killing of workers who fought for their rights” . The program includes a procession and laying of a wreath at Sasso Barbato, which was the site of the massacre.

Even for the president of the M5s, Giuseppe Conte, these are days of electoral tour. “For May 1st – accuses the president of the 5-star movement Giuseppe Conte in Repubblica – Meloni has organized a scene that will cost dearly to already poor and underpaid workers”.
