“A place of horrors”. President Sergio Mattarella said this when visiting the pavilions of the Nazi camp in Auschwitz Poland. The head of state remained in recollection in front of the wall of death where the prisoners were shot.

President Sergio Mattarella arrived in Aushwitz from Warsaw on the second day of his visit to Poland. Mattarella, together with his daughter Laura, accompanied by the deputy foreign minister, Edmondo Cirielli, began his visit to Auschwitz, where he was welcomed by sisters Andra and Tatiana Bucci, who survived deportation to the concentration camp, and representatives of the Jewish communities. Then he visited the Museum together with the Bucci sisters and the students of three Italian institutes: the ‘Leonardo da Vinci’ scientific-classical-human sciences high school in Terracina; the ‘Rinaldini’ classical high school in Ancona; the Pujati high school in Sacile.

The March of the Living
