The letter from FdI MEPs to Von der Leyen

Meanwhile, the Fratelli d’Italia delegation to the European Parliament urges the European Commission “to fill a paradoxical gap within the Ten-T network (trans-European transport networks)currently under review” including among its infrastructures the bridge over the Strait of Messina. They write it in a letter sent to the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyenand to the EU Commissioner for Transport, Adina Valeanthe MEPs Vincenzo Sofo, Carlo Fidanza and Denis Nesci and signed by colleagues Raffaele Stancanelli, Giuseppe Milazzo, Sergio Berlato, Pietro Fiocchi and Nicola Procaccini.

“Already more than a year ago we presented a question to the European Commissioner for Transport, Adina Valean, to claim the strategic importance of the Bridge over the Strait as an essential work for the completion of the Scandinavian-Mediterranean corridor involving Calabria and Sicily, bringing high speed and high capacity in the two regions”, highlights the FdI delegation, indicating that Valean itself “answered that, precisely for the reasons described, it is an infrastructure of European importance”. “It is a pity – continue the MEPs of FdI – that to date it has not yet been included in the list of works to be carried out for the completion of the trans-European transport network, also due to the responsibility of the previous governments which did not consider it strategic” .

“The centre-right – they add – has included this point in the government program and we hope that the Commission will take advantage of this important political novelty and be willing to include the bridge over the Strait among the eligible works, so that we can finally proceed with the definitive development infrastructure of a strategic area such as the South”.
