M5s and Verdi-Si force Schlein to break the silence on the waste-to-energy plant in Rome

For the Democratic Party, the hour of truth on the waste-to-energy plant in Rome is approaching. The party is divided internally between those who support the mayor of the capital, Roberto Gualtieri, in favor of building the plant, and those who instead denounce its inappropriateness, with positions close to those of the 5 Star Movement and the Green-Left alliance Italian, always against. In fact, from them two motions are arriving in the House which will inevitably force the dem to make a decision, in one sense or another. At the center are the powers as extraordinary commissioner that the Pnrr decree attributes to Gualtieri: M5s and Verdi-They ask for the revocation, with the aim of blocking the process of the plant. Date X is Wednesday, when the trust in the text and therefore also in the two documents in the appendix will be voted: from the decision that the dem deputies will take, it will be understood what the majority position is in the Democratic Party. With the serious risk of incurring chaos.

For now, in fact, the only certainty is the superimposition of declarations with different, if not opposite tenor: the last, and perhaps the most significant, came yesterday from the candidate defeated in the primaries, Stefano Bonaccini. Who, on the subject, was very clear: “Not supporting Gualtieri on the waste-to-energy plant would be a glaring mistake”. Words that sound like a warning to the newly elected party leader, who has taken refuge behind an ambiguous silence; but also and above all to some members of the secretariat who openly oppose it. Like the new culture manager Sandro Ruotolo, who recently proposed a referendum to let citizens decide, or the environment representative Annalisa Corrado, who as founder of Green Italia has repeatedly expressed her perplexities. The secretariat should meet next Friday to resolve contradictions and bring out a shared line. But, with the move by M5s and Verdi-Si, it may already be too late.
