The newspaper founded by Antonio Gramsci back to the newsstand. After an absence from the world of the press for the past seven years, the Unit will be directed by Peter Sansonetti and will be sold again starting tomorrow. An important date, considering that the newspaper was founded in 1924 and in a year, therefore, will celebrate its centenary. Sansonetti arrives at the Unit after years of direction of Reformistnow passed under the editorial leadership of Matthew Renzi.

“After all this time, it seemed that the newspaper would never reopen. Instead, thanks to the acquisition by Romeo Editore, it will once again play a fundamental role in the editorial and political debate”, commented Sansonetti. “At a time when the left appears increasingly weak, due to the inability to produce ideas and contents – he continued -, the Unit proposes itself as a pole of political and cultural elaboration. Physically it will be a small newspaper, made up of twelve pages , but committed to addressing issues of great relevance and depth”.

The cost of the newspaper (which will have an editorial staff of six journalists and various collaborators) will be 1.50 euros and tomorrow’s issue will also include articles signed by Louis Manconi And Massimo D’Alema. An interview with Jean-Luc Mélenchon, leader of the French left, will be released on Wednesday. “As indicated by Gramsci – explains Sansonetti – l’Unità will continue to be on the side of the weakest. And if originally it was aimed at farmers and workers, today it will also be the masthead of migrants and prisoners. While always maintaining its independence clear , Unity will be close to the Pd, the main political force of the left, and to the thought of Pope Bergoglio which currently represents an ideological point of reference. In other words, fully embracing a historical legacy.”
