Lombardy Regionals, Fabrizio Pregliasco: "Being a virostar penalized me"

«Being a virostar didn’t pay off. Indeed, it is now almost a negative mark. A pity because in reality my candidacy was born from my commitment in the social sector and in the third sector». Fabrizio Pregliasco, virologist and director of the Galeazzi orthopedic institute in Milan, does nothing to mask his bitterness over the failure to be elected to the regional council on the Majorino list for president. He announces that he will participate in the primaries of the Democratic Party “to support Stefano Bonaccini” but above all he hopes that the center-left will carry on the battles of “attention to the territory, to the fragile and chronic”.
Professor, in what sense does your result mark the decline of virostars?
«After the pandemic, that role has become more of a burden than anything else. But I don’t deny anything of that path of scientific dissemination. It was right to do it and I, like others, did it».
It collected 2,005 preferences. Is something reproached?
«I think I still got a good result. I knew that entering a civic as an independent without the support of a party would be very challenging. Perhaps we needed a more structured working group and a different economic investment for communication. I think, with the means I had, I did everything possible.
What struck you most about this political experience?
«I liked doing things I didn’t do like going to the markets, meeting people and understanding contexts that I never get to know. The thing that struck me the most, however, and which also made me sad, is that the Lombards voted very little».
