Given “the internal malaise”, the “non-predisposition to listen to the innumerable territorial criticalities” and “the total abandonment of the Northernist autonomist issues”, the Lombard regional councilors of the League, Roberto Mura, Federico Lena and Antonello Formenti, have decided to leave the Lega Salvini Premier group. The new group formed at the Pirellone was registered under the name of Northern Committee, the autonomist and northerner current founded by Umberto Bossi. Even the chosen symbol recalls the bossian current, with the writing North Committee and the typical colors of the League, green, yellow and blue. Roberto Mura is indicated as president of the group. The other two members are Antonello Formenti and Federico Lena.
Salvini: no problem with the Northern Committee
“Sure, I meet everyone.” It was the way in which the leader of the League Matteo Salvini responded yesterday to reporters who asked him to account for the Northern Committee formed by Umberto Bossi. “I am absolutely calm”, added the minister, excluding the possibility that some Lombard regional councilors could form a new group close to the sensitivities of the Northern Committee (“these are fantasies that worry you”). However, the representatives of the new formation, Paolo Grimoldi and Angelo Ciocca, would not be at risk of expulsion for Salvini.

Behind Salvini’s relaunch of the “construction site” already open on the implementation of autonomy would be precisely the risk of a split in the League ventilated by the frond of the northerners. And which is now perceived as a fuse capable of detonating internal divisions, after the electoral flop in the Policies. For the Captain’s loyalists there is no open internal challenge. Neither friction with Bossi, to whom the former interior minister remains grateful. For this reason, it was explained a few days ago in circles close to the Northern League secretary, a meeting or in any case no clarification is expected between the two in the short term. Even if a face-to-face is among the possible options.
The organizational steps of the Committee
Meanwhile, the Committee has launched its own newspaper (it’s called “Comitato Nord informa”) and is working on the idea of “consulte”, i.e. working groups, to explore issues such as pensions, health care, work (the copyright belongs to Bossi). The aim is also to increase the membership which for now would be three thousand militants and supporters. In Salvini’s strategy to recover consensus and restore the party’s sparkle, a mix between the new impetus to historical flags – such as autonomy – and the resumption of relations with the territories thanks to the concrete choices that the work at the Ministry of Infrastructure allows to make .
