“Let’s change the nation or it’s useless to stay”. Comunali, the leader of FdI pushes the reforms – Corriere.it

“We are not here to survive. Either we change this nation or we don’t need to be in government”. Giorgia Meloni flaunts the decisive tones and decibels of the electoral campaign (“Finally I’m back among the people: this matters, not what the newspapers write”) to make it clear that her experience at Palazzo Chigi will leave a mark. The prime minister launches the challenge: “If Parliament does not want to approve our institutional reforms, we will address the citizens with a referendum”.

From the Morato theater in Brescia, where the center-right leaders close the campaign in support of the candidate for mayor Fabio Rolfi (Lega), Matteo Salvini guarantees full support making the “exchange” on the reform table plastic: “At the end of this legislature we will have a federal Italy in which citizens will directly elect the premier” . Autonomy against the premiership because, the two main leaders of the center-right say in chorus, “it is the only way to allow the country to take a leap into the future”. Outside it pours but inside the theater seethes with enthusiasm. And those who take the stage, from Maurizio Lupi to Attilio Fontana via the connection with Antonio Tajani from Oslo and the video of Silvio Berlusconi from the San Raffaele, touch all the strings that raise the pathos of the audience. Authentic standing ovations are reserved for Meloni both upon arrival in the room and when she is called to intervene.

The premier says she doesn’t listen to what they write about her and to respond to the rumors about the quarrels within the executive, she remarked: “I am proud of the ministers and the government, I am proud of Matteo and I am very proud of Silvio who fights like a lion from the hospital”. Once the motion of affections is closed, Meloni raises the tone of her voice to remind that Italy is “the nation that will grow the most in Europe”, that unemployment is at its lowest. You claim the cut in the tax wedge decided on May 1st and you respond to criticism with a quip: “We won’t make a CDM at Christmas because we don’t have laws to make about Jesus”. The president closes on the birth rate (“I want a normal Italy because we are all born of a father and a mother”) and with an appeal to play a philoto, snatching Brescia from the center-left and aligning it with the alignment that leads the national government and the Region.

Tajani plays on home pride by promising that if Rolfi wins the Lioness from Brescia will roar again while Lupi reserves the role of one who remembers that “a political government has been elected which is now doing what it promised”. But it is Salvini who inflames the audience again with two lunges on topics dear to him. First he hopes that “the sheriff of Brescia” will be elected (as Rolfi was called when he was deputy mayor) because we have balls full of “drug dealers and criminals” and then he seizes the arrival of Mother’s Day to exalt a figure who cannot be confused with “parent 1 or parent 2”.
Now the word goes to the polls. The challenge with Laura Castelletti, outgoing deputy mayor supported by the centre-left, is complicated. And Salvini ends with a warning: “If by chance we don’t win in the first round, we’ll see you in the ballot…”.
