The US Air Force has announced the decision to start initial production of the MH-139A Gray Wolf helicopters, thus allowing Boeing and Leonardo to announce the contract for the delivery of the first 13 units. The start of these production activities will lead to the supply of the first operational helicopters, which will replace the current UH-1N fleet with delivery in 2024.

The Gray Wolf, recalls a note, a multi-mission helicopter based on Leonardo’s AW139, a model which today boasts over 1130 units in service worldwide. The Gray Wolf designed to protect ICBMs and to carry US government and security forces personnel.

This decision represents a critical step toward getting MH-139 into service and providing the US Air Force with even greater missile safety in the coming decades, said Azeem Khant, director of the MH-139 program for Boeing. We are working hard to start deliveries next year.

Clyde Woltman, CEO of Leonardo Helicopters US, then added that the Leonardo personnel involved in the program together with our partner Boeing are eager to continue this collaboration and strongly committed to ensuring the full success of the fleet.

For Leonardo, the 2022 financial statements closed with a net result growing by 58.5% to 932 million. Revenues increased by 4.8% to 14.7 billion, orders by 21% to 17.3 billion. The board proposes to the shareholders’ meeting the distribution of a dividend of 0.14 euro per share. The results achieved – commented the CEO Alessandro Profumo – testify once again the solidity of Leonardo’s industrial plant and the ability to react and adapt to complex challenges. Leonardo is now more solid, resilient, sustainable, innovative and ready to seize future opportunities.
