Lecco, fate in an email: the fate of a dream is decided on 7 July

The fate of Lecco depends on the moment of arrival of a Pec, sent from the prefecture of Padua and transferred by the Como club to the Serie B League. And above all on the degree of tolerance of the FIGC federal council, which on 7 July will have to decide whether to accept the registration for the next Serie B championship for the bluceleste, who obtained the historic promotion after 50 years, despite almost two days of delay in sending the documentation.

The stage node

The deadline for sending documents for registration in the B championship was June 15, with a five-day extension for latecomers. Calcio Lecco 1912, even before having the certainty of having obtained the promotion, should therefore have sent all the guarantees on its financial solidity – and here there are no problems – and on the availability of an adequate stadium. And here comes the trouble.

Lecco returns to Serie B after 50 years: Foggia also beaten in the second leg

The technical limits of the plant

Lecco achieved promotion by beating Foggia 3-1 in last Sunday’s pay-off final. The Rossoneri from Puglia, with a certain optimism, had already completed all the B registration procedures before the match. Not so Lecco, which neglected a very important issue: the Rigamonti Ceppi stadium, inaugurated in 1922 and renovated six times over the decades , does not have the requisites to be able to host Serie B matches: the capacity (it hosts less than 5,000 people), the presence of tolerance areas around the stadium, the minimum distance from schools.

The ok from the prefecture of Padua

Having obtained promotion on the pitch, the first hypotheses taken into consideration by the club were to play their home games in Vercelli or Monza, but neither of the two solutions proved to be viable. On Tuesday 20 June, the Padua hypothesis took hold, which is indeed 200 kilometers away as the crow flies, but is connected with high speed. And being an important trade fair centre, it is used to hosting large events, such as cartel matches in Serie B. What was missing when the deadline for registration expired was the authorization from the Paduan prefecture. The document arrived, but too late. And for a few hours, the dream of an entire city threatens to turn into a nightmare.
