League without votes because now without territories (thanks to Salvini)

Two names photograph the Northern League electoral collapse better than any other analysis: Paolo Grimoldi And Germano Racchella. The first, secretary of the Lombard League until 2021, deeply rooted in the Lombardy region and beloved by the militants, a member of parliament since 2006, suffered the shame of having been positioned by those who composed the third-party lists, in a position that can be defined as problematic or functional precisely to non-election it would even be an understatement. A lack of respect for the territoriesmore than for Grimoldi himself.

The second name is that of the Venetian Germano Racchella, a deputy linked to the Zayan wing and strongman of the Bassano: Racchella has been given an even more humiliating fate than that of Grimoldi, that is to be a candidate not in his college but in the Venetian area and fourth in the multi-member list. After the Federal Council which could appear interlocutory, in the best tradition of the last Italian party of Leninist origin which is the Lega, which has always been linked to the apparent indisputability of the leader of the moment, the artificial confidence confirmed in the leader Salvini is simply taking time and choosing a field in order not to weaken the already scarce Northern League negotiating power in the formation of the future government. The latent but inexorable crisis had been shaking the deep womb of the Via Bellerio party for some time. Just in these days, the Salvinian wing has tried to overturn the narrative trend: defeat is admitted, and the opposite would be unthinkable, but it is blamed on the decision, referable to Giorgetti and the presidents of the Region, to enter the government Dragons.

From parts of the Villages and of Bagnai even the iconic figure of the Scared Little Lombard Businessman (Pils): instrument of legitimization of the governorial and Giorgettian policies of entryism in experiences that, in terms of consensus, the Salvinian wing considers disastrous. Before you forced us to join the Draghi agenda, the Salvinians argue, and now you complain about the result. Naturally, any experience of government in times of lacerating crisis has a cost of votes and consensus: and the experience of a government of national unity, so peculiar, is certainly even more significant, especially for a party of struggle and government like the Salvinian Traction League.

However, the League begins its downward trend in consensus already in 2019, after the Papee’s lost betyou; after the exploits of the Europeans, Salvini’s party goes down an ever more descending slope, first of all losing its identity and its historical battles, always read with greater confusion by the electorate. To this is added a tentative and uncertain structure in the center-south, where a convincing ruling class is almost completely lacking and where identity and political line are in hiding.

Then there is another element that strengthens the reading of a defeat that has matured in and on the territories, rather than by joining the Draghi government. In Veneto and Lombardy the Northern League voters preferred to vote for a party, such as the Brothers of Italy, which was not wrongly perceived as statist and Roman-centric: moreover, Lombards and Venetians preferred to vote en masse for FdI, a party full of “foreign candidates” ”Electorally transplanted to Lombardy and Veneto, as in the case of Isabella Rauti, very Roman, who was elected in Sesto San Giovanni with 46 percent of the votes but who was also a candidate in Veneto, together with the Neapolitan Giulia Cosenza, until these elections always a candidate in Campania or Bologna Anna Maria Bernini. It certainly does not seem a coincidence. It is rather an evident signal, an underground and scientific transfer of votes, originally foreseeable precisely due to the lack of territorial criteria in the composition of the lists, purified of those who are not very loyal to the leader Salvini.
