The new issue will be on the App on Sunday 1 January and on newsstands on Monday 2 with the anniversaries of 2023 told by Alberto Casadei and Nicola Campogrande. The interview with Erin Doom, the story dedicated to Roger Federer. Digital extra: New Year’s stories

Many literary and artistic anniversaries are expected in 2023 that celebrate key figures of our culture. Alessandro Manzoni, Italo Calvino, Maria Callas, Édith Piaf: the new issue of «la Lettura», #579 opens with four parallel portraits, which will be on newsstands on Monday 2 January and can already be previewed on the App on Sunday 1 January. Also in the App, on Saturday 31st, the Theme of the Day is an overview of the novels and mysteries dedicated to New Year’s Eve and the New Year’s atmosphere.

There are many common traits between two writers and “cultural operators” apparently distant as Alessandro Manzoni (died 1873) and Italo Calvino (born 1923). Both curious about the novelties, creators of literary models, capable of re-establishing the story of Italian history, past and present, are compared in the in-depth analysis by Alberto Casadei. At the same time, Nicola Campogrande’s intervention talks about two artists who revolutionized the way of singing and created modern icons of divas and stars, Callas (born in 1923) and Piaf (died in 1963): the analysis highlights the similarities of the two voices for power and ductility, as well as for some registers. More anniversaries in the Looks, with exhibitions and events coming up in 2023 for Perugino, Pablo Picasso, Joshua Reynolds and other artists: the report is by Stefano Bucci. The best-selling book of 2022 was Tearmaker (Magazzini Salani) of the secret identity writer Erin Doom: in the interview with Severino Colombo, the author recounts the unexpected success and early passion for writing.

He was an explorer of everyday reality, a pioneer of American literary realism: the writer Saul Bellow (1915-2005) is celebrated by a recent documentary, The Adventures of Saul Bellow, directed by Asaf Galay, in which he is remembered by colleagues such as Salman Rusdhie and Philip Roth, as well as his nephew Joel Bellow; Matteo Persivale writes about it. The issue closes with a tribute to a champion of style as well as tennis, Roger Federer: the writer Roberto Ferrucci recalls his athletic gesture and his recent emotional retirement.

The App of «la Lettura» (downloadable from the App Store and Google Play) offers the most recent number of the insert as a preview already on Saturday and all the archive of issues released since 2011, searchable with an advanced search engine.
