Just Eat will take over 2 thousand workers in the next 12 months. On the occasion of May 1, the company “celebrates 2 years since the implementation of the ethical delivery model with more than 2,500 employee riders hired in 27 cities with an employment contract”, reads the food delivery company’s website. In March 2021 Just Eat reached an agreement with Filt Cgil, Fit-Cisl and Uil Trasporti, to transform riders into subordinate workers with the right to sickness, holidays, overtime, severance pay and hourly wages, as provided for in the national logistics contract. To date, Just Eat is the first multinational in the sector to have chosen to operate only with riders with subordinate employment contracts.

«We have decided to implement a responsible model because we believe it is an advantage for the workers, but also for the partner restaurants and customers who can take advantage of a more qualitative, efficient and complete service. We hope as soon as possible that the food delivery sector can be regulated in a more precise way with more protective working formulas and rules shared by all the companies in the sector, to operate efficiently and competitively in our country», he says Daniele Contini, country manager of Just Eat Italia.

A new corporate entity was set up to manage recruitment, part of Just Eat Takeaway.com, with a staff of more than 100, explains the group. “In the main of the 27 cities where the service is active, the opening of territorial hubs is also planned, where riders can collect and use work vehicles provided by the company, such as electric scooters and e-bikes”, explains Just Eat in a note.

With the transition from self-employment to subordinate work, Just Eat has launched training courses for employees: dedicated training is offered to you with 12 hours of basic and specific training on the profession and on health and safety, together with a periodic medical check-up to ensure you are fit for work. From March 2021 to today, more than 40,000 hours of training have been provided, Just Eat informs.
