The Ministry of the Economy announces that it has signed a letter of intent with the German company for the sale of a minority stake in the Italian carrier. Negotiations can now start to define the details of the agreement

The negotiation between the Mef and Lufthansa for the sale of Ita can come to lifeor. The Ministry of Economy and Finance said in a statement that “this afternoon it signed the letter of intent of Deutsche Lufthansa AG to acquire a minority stake in Ita Airways”. The document is preparatory to open private negotiation between the parties on which, the Mef clarifies, no other details will be disclosed.

On Wednesday, the German company presented its offer to the Italian government. The initial commitment is to remain a minority shareholder by acquiring between 30 and 40 per cent, but the intention would be to then agree on the sale of the remaining shares. The most important aspect of the negotiations concerns what Lufthansa defines in the press release as “forms and methods of possible share investment”. The other subject matter of the negotiations, the German company explained last week, is the commercial and operational integration of Ita in the Lufthansa Group and the resulting synergies.

On these issues, the public shareholder and the industrial partner will have to find an agreement, within the framework established in the decree with which the government reopened the sale of the Italian company.
