Is Italy the new DDR? The World Press Freedom Index 2023 speaks well of us

It was the weekend of imaginary censors, from Carlo Rovelli banned (and then readmitted) at the Buchmesse in Frankfurt up to Fazio’s expulsion from Rai. Yet we went from 68th to 41st place for freedom of the press

Help, right-wing censorship is coming and I don’t have a helmet to wear. It was the premium weekend of imaginary censored victimhood. The well-known physicist who believes that NATO is to blame for the war began: “Since I dared to criticize the defense minister, my speech (at the Buchmesse in Frankfurt, ed) was deleted”. Then the deluge of Fazio kicked out by Rai. Obviously censorship has nothing to do with it, but Italy is the country of the perceived, indeed of the manipulated: the right, the censorship. It is a pity that the World Press Freedom Index 2023 reports that Italy has instead made a leap forward in the ranking of press freedom: from 58th place to 41st. 72 points out of 100. Reporters Sans Frontières’ annual ranking was published a few days ago, but in the country of perceived and manipulated things it didn’t have much resonance: there are reports and reports. We are the country where if Coldiretti exchanges turnover and GDP, and says that the agri-food sector in Italy is worth 580 billion GDP, for everyone it is pure gold. Even for Istat, the right number must instead be divided by four. Ask anyone and they will tell you that Italy is an increasingly corrupt country (the right has arrived, right?). Too bad that the latest Transparency International ranking put Italy one step above last year (41st place: obviously not heaven on earth, but a step forward and not backwards.
