There are baptisms of fire that mark an entire career, and the next as well. In his first season in the Champions League, as a striker, Simone Inzaghi scored nine goals, four of which in a single match: no Italian footballer would have succeeded again. It was 2000, the year of Lazio’s last championship. More generally, Inzaghi was that team’s top scorer only thanks to the cups – 12 goals out of 19 scored outside the league. And so he would have confirmed himself over his decade in the biancoceleste shirt: 0.21 goals per game in Serie A (28 out of 133), double that (0.43: 27 out of 62) in all other competitions. He won six and today as many as a coach – plus two more on the Lazio Spring bench. That tricolor instead remains the only one.
