The news that Intel will open a semiconductor factory in Poland near Wroclaw has caused alarm. What will happen to the commitment made for a plant in Italy? The Polish one is a substantial investment, 4.6 billion dollars for a new state-of-the-art chip assembly & test facility, with 2,000 direct jobs plus thousands more related jobs. Once the green light has been obtained from the European Union, work will begin – in Poland, in Ireland, at Leixlip, where there is a factory that produces wafers, in Germany, with the two factories to be built in Magdeburg (a 17 billion euros with support from the state that reaches around ten billion euros): thus a chip supply chain is born in Europe, with an overall commitment by Intel that should reach 33 billion to reach 80 billion in ten years.
