The commissioning of Inps and Inail was so urgent that the government has not yet appointed the commissioners of the two entities, which according to the decree law of 10 May they had to be chosen within 20 days, i.e. by the 31st of last month. The knot should finally be resolved today, barring surprises. Not the first time, in recent weeks, that the government’s agreement on names has been taken for granted and then a new postponement had to be acknowledged.

Two technical profiles

Blame the cross vetoes between the Brothers of Italy and the League, of which important names gradually fell victim, from Maurizio Castro (at one point given for sure to INPS) to Gabriele Fava, from Mauro Nori (former general manager of the same social security institute) to Alfredo Maria Becchetti (former head of the League in Rome, indicated for Inail). To get out of the impasse, the Minister of Labour, Marina Calderone, and Palazzo Chigi, have fallen back on two technical profiles. A commissioner is on the way for INPS: Micaela Gelera, born in Rome in 1972, actuary of the Orion studio, consultant of the pension fund of labor consultants, very close to Calderone, who, before becoming a minister, led the Order of labor consultants from 2005 to 2022.

Changes to regulations within 90 days

Instead, the Inail commissioner will be Fabrizio D’Ascenzo, also from Rome, 56 years old, dean of the Faculty of Economics of Sapienza. The commissioners, according to the decree of 10 May, they will have 90 days to amend the regulations of the two bodies in the light of the reform of the governance dictated by the same decree, which provides for the appointment by the government of a president and a board of directors of four members and a general manager on the proposal of the same board. It is not clear whether the two commissioners are destined to remain as presidents. Even on this there is no agreement in the government.
