In 2012 Sergio Marchionne decided to close theIrisbus of Flumeri (Avellino) for a simple reason: “It has never earned a lira in its history”. Politics, understandably, wanted to prevent 300-odd workers in a depressed area from losing their jobs and promised to revive bus production: the state entrepreneur would have succeeded where Marchionne had surrendered.
