Yesterday at the congress of Fabi, the first trade union in the sector, the managing director of Intesa SanPaolo made a clear opening on the salary part. To those who asked him what he thought of the rThe request for an increase of 435 euros (on a monthly basis, with relative adjustment also on other economic items) shared by the unions replied that «with a net profit of 7 billion euros, I don’t have the courage to look people in the face and say that I’m going to negotiate on this aspect”. Not only that, Messina also hoped for employee participation in profits: «I asked internally to study this possibility. I’d see it well.” The opening came in a complex trade union context with Intesa which withdrew the delegation from the ABI for union negotiations on the renewal of the national contract. Negotiations that will start by mid-July. Intesa is at the table with the formula of the “permanent invitation”.

Make synthesis between different banks

Can the rift be healed? The leader of the Fabi, Lando Maria Sileoni, hopes so, who indeed asks the ABI that “it be done quickly, because otherwise someone else could be tempted to withdraw”. At the same time Sileoni jumped at Intesa’s ball: «We know that part of the banks present in ABI are preparing to say that 435 euros are too much but I’m saying it right now, I’ll put up a barricade on this, I resign. And I warn you: do not think of showing up at the table with the idea of ​​one lump sum». For his part, the president of ABI Antonio Patuelli, in the “sidelines” with journalists, defined a “moral duty” to bring Intesa back into the Casl. The direct confrontation with Sileoni and the other acronyms in the sector (Riccardo Colombani of First Cisl, Susy Esposito of Fisac ​​Cgil, Fulvio Furlan of Uilca and Emilio Contrasto of Unisin) was managed by Ilaria Dalla Riva, head of the Casl, the trade union affairs committee of the association. “My role requires me to make a synthesis between different banks,” said Dalla Riva. Pressed by Sileoni: «Messina’s opening is unavoidable, you must take note that Intesa has made this opening, even if it has left you displaced, you must start from there».

Third pole tests

Since yesterday, the convergence of the sector on a single national contract seems more complicated. But much will depend on the agreements on the regulatory side. The latest bank contract provided for a maximum of 10 days a month of smart working, an agreement just signed with Intesa allows up to 30, 120 a year. The hypothesis of an alternative pole to Intesa and Unicredit also held the ground at the congress. From the stage, the CEO of Mps, Luigi Lovaglio, was clear: «The issue is not to make the third pole to save Mps, we don’t need it. We participate in a third pole logic not because someone has to save us but in an aggregative logic”. Rocca Salimbeni is therefore ready to move, because the aggregation of Monte dei Paschi “will be good for everyone” in a logic of system. The bride, however, is still difficult to find: Bper, for example, is at the window. “We are not in a position to consider other operations – the CEO of the former Popolare, Piero Luigi Montani was cautious – this does not mean that we are for or against the third pole”.
