The governor of Emilia-Romagna takes the field in his city, Campogalliano, and announces the race for the PD primaries on February 19

I am here because I have decided to run for secretary of the Democratic Party. Stefano Bonaccini, governor of Emilia-Romagna, returns home once again, in his Campogalliano, to tell about his new challenge, the biggest of his political career. For the big announcement he chooses the deconsecrated church of San Rocco, which overlooks Piazza Castello, that is, what he used to see when he was a child and looked out the window of his house. Where instead of the headquarters of the Democratic Party there was that of the PCI, with which in 1990 Bonaccini ran for city councilor for the first time. It seemed right to me to tell you first of all, to my fellow citizens, who have seen me grow, and to the members of my section, about Bonaccini’s moved debut. In the front row is his mother Anna.

The governor, who had been ready for some time to play the toughest game, says he made up his mind after the tough defeat on September 25: I took the time to reflect, wondering if I can be useful for my party. And then: I feel the weight of this responsibility, of trying to do what others have failed to do – explains Bonaccini -. The thing that worries me is the loss of our people. Hearing about the dissolution of the Democratic Party strikes me deeply. The essence of his liberal-reformist line can already be read in the words of the aspiring secretary: I do not accept that we remain paralyzed under the blows of the right and of the other oppositions that try to tear us apart. Words that sound like more than a warning for the 5 Stars, with which, however, Bonaccini says he will keep an open door if he is elected new secretary. The governor thanks Enrico Letta who has chosen to shoulder everything, even many faults not his, and warns that we have 5 years of opposition ahead of us, time to rebuild a new project, with ideas and dreams, to return to leading the Italy.
