«Horses and Knights» at the Royal Site of Carditello

A great show on the musical notes of the Fanfare: the training department of the “Pastrengo” Squadron Group will be the protagonist of the final exhibition, recalling glorious pages of history in a succession of rapid evolutions and complex intertwining, taken from the traditional figures of the carousel.

“The equestrian event Cavalli & Cavalieri – explains Carmine Basco, technical director of the Real Sito di Carditello Foundation – has a strongly symbolic value for the Foundation. It is a historic moment that marks the decisive step in the context of the enhancement agreement linked to the breeding of Government race of Persano in Carditello: from the first phase of herd growth, with the aim of safeguarding the Persanos from extinction, to the second more strategic phase, dedicated to the selection of specimens for activities intended for both site visitors and competitive initiatives, with the participation at national and international events. We are tracing a new course to give the right value to the Government Race, confirming those typical characteristics of the species, such as elegance, running, endurance and jumping ”.

During the day, it will be possible to listen to the repertoire of the US Naval Forces Europe Band, the band of the US Naval Forces in Europe and Africa, and participate in historical re-enactments, theatrical raids and special visits dedicated to the horses of the Governmental Breed of Persano, saved from extinction and bred in Carditello. The only pure nucleus, with the mark of the breed, present in the world.

“An important opportunity to express our values ​​and confirm the mission of the Foundation – affirms the president Luigi Nicolais, at the helm of the Real Sito di Carditello Foundation since 2016 – promoting historical re-enactments, enriching our tourist offer and protecting the territory thanks to the collaboration with the Forestry, Environmental and Agri-food Unit Command of the Carabinieri, which pursues the dual objective of preserving the genetic heritage of Italian equine breeds and carry out the service activity in a compatible and sustainable way with the environment. Precisely in Carditello, the Cufa will guarantee the surveillance of the extraordinary monumental complex and the control of the surrounding areas through horse-riding patrols that will use Persano horses ”.

Cavalli & Cavalieri’s 2022 program is particularly rich: from 9.30, opening of the Taste area with tasting of typical local products and CardiPony activities with pony rides for children (up to 10 years of age); 10.30 am, institutional greetings; 11 am-1pm, historical carousel with the 4th Carabinieri Regiment on horseback; 13-18, special visits dedicated to the Government Race of Persano; 15-16, extraordinary performance of the US Naval Forces Band in Europe and Africa; 16-18.30, historical re-enactment by the Antiqua Tempora and 1st Regiment King associations, and thematic theatrical incursions by La Mansarda – Teatro dell’Orco.
