It’s time for construction sites in via della Scrofa 39. In the historic headquarters of the Italian right work is being done on two fronts: if the workers are busy expanding the headquarters, the top management of FdI they developed the reorganization of the party «machine».which needed a radical overhaul after the conquest of Palazzo Chigi.

The first name that strikes you is that of

Arianna Meloni, sister of Prime Minister Giorgia and wife of Minister Francesco Lollobrigida,

In the organization chart of the party, among the new entries, there is the MEP Nicholas Procaccini (Environment); the mayor of L’Aquila Pierluigi Biondi (Local authorities) and the Senator Alberto Balboni (Safety). Confirmed, among others: Andrea Delmastro, Undersecretary of Justice, who will continue to follow the same party matter; the deputy Caroline Varchi (Noon) e Federico Mollicone (Culture).

But in addition to the reorganization of the “machine”, the Brothers of Italy now needs one largest venue. The leaders of the former “small party”, during the years of the hard restart after the farewell to the PDL, worked here in a “comfortable” way, they say. But today, become the first party in Italy, the headquarters is practically stormed every day. And so the Melonians had to launch the (almost) doubling of spaces, also incorporating part of the ground floor, paying a total rent to the An Foundation, owner of the property.

Here, on December 17, 1984, Giorgio Almirante inaugurated the headquarters of the MSI, paid three billion lire: the rooms also received the blessing of the parish priest of Sant’Agostino. Today, under the seat nestled between the House and the Senate, traffic is exponentially more intense than then. The numbers, emblematic of this growth, in the morning we spent in via della Scrofa, he tells us Alfonso, historical goalkeeper and handyman of the party for a long time: «Up until before the victory in the last elections, about twenty people passed through this door a day. Today we get to 100-120: there would be a vigilante» he jokes in Roman dialect. The four chairs at the entrance, which used to move forward, are now always occupied. So the first part of Melon’s construction site will start from the construction of a much larger waiting room.

A little further there is Meloni’s office, and which belonged to Almirante, where the premier, even if rarely, continues to stop by late in the evening for private meetings. A few rooms later, in this horseshoe path, it appears among the boxes John Donzelli, satisfied with the clear victory at the Regionals in Molise. In his room there is a briar table: it was by Fini. From here, the deputy manages every FdI movement in the area. «We are a “heavy” party, rooted in towns and cities, maintaining the centrality of membership, but always remaining “light” – he says -. We have always been careful about expenses: today we have 8 employees, maybe we’ll hire a couple more after the expansion of the site. But nothing more.’ The Democratic Party, to make a comparison, today has about 130 employeesin the tunnel of a long redundancy fund.
