Thus, in these hours, the order given to the most faithful was: no celebration, composure and reserve. Because “the moment is so difficult that we have to be responsible and serious”.

Also to avoid dangerous overexposure, the leader of FdI with her family has decided the strategy of these first days: no self-celebrating press conference “as anyone who had obtained an extraordinary result like ours would have done” or a street party. And no polemic thrust: «The civil war of this electoral campaign must be closed. We hope that no one will start poisoning wells, and perhaps that a responsible opposition, like ours, will be made ».

But the problems for Meloni could come from the economic crisis and from the allies. On the first, Lollobrigida, Ciriani and Donzelli explained that the leader is already thinking about the next maneuver, hoping for a collaboration with Mario Draghi, given the very short time to pass the budget law. Lollobrigida himself reiterates his desire to reform the Constitution in a presidentialist key, which “is beautiful but is also 70 years old, sacrificed greater efficiency to prudence”.

The Meloni government has reasoned with the loyalists: Salvini’s decline and Berlusconi’s ambitions could lead to final requests. She is clear: the results of the vote are “clear” and should advise against creating trouble. But, is the warning, “I will not accept compromises and I will not lend myself to games”. There will be no yielding on points of the program to fulfill impossible promises, nor on requests from ministries that could create problems: «We are serious people, we offer maximum collaboration but we have come this far and we do not want to lose face. FdI does not go to the government to blow the bank ». The conditions for leaving are clear: either “good things” are done, or it is useless to go to the government.

Meloni does not say this in public, but hypotheses such as the Ministry of the Interior for Salvini, or the presidency of the Senate for Berlusconi, are not considered. The allies can be granted the presidency at Palazzo Madama, we will see in the Chamber, but everything must be “serious”. Starting with the Economy Department, which is expected to be entrusted to a technician, perhaps not to Panetta so as not to discover the Bank of Italy and the ECB side. Also because the situation is “extremely difficult”.

Meloni certainly did not like the exit of French Prime Minister Borne, that of his “we will watch over Italy”: “And who are they to do it? Previous governments got them used badly, ”they say in FdI, a little surprised that no one, neither Draghi nor the Quirinale, intervened to defend the prestige of the country. But today is not the day to argue.
