The Economy Minister announces an emergency measure to finance tax breaks for workers with children with the available budgetary margins. The measure could find space in the Labor decree, on the table of the next Council of Ministers. Sunday the meeting at Palazzo Chigi with union representatives

The Meloni government’s tax relief policy for families with children begins to take shape. An initial measure financed with the budgetary margins available will serve to raise the limit of fringe benefits for employees with children. This is what the Economy Minister announced today, Giancarlo Giorgettiresponding to a question time in the House. Fringe benefits are those payments made in the form of goods and services, such as meal vouchers or company cars, but also insurance policies or health care, and are taxed when their value exceeds a certain threshold. For the current year this threshold is set at 258.23 euros, but during 2022 it was raised to 3,000 by the Aiuti Quater decree.

Alongside this intervention, the government will introduce a cut in the social security contributions payable by employees with medium-low incomesfinanced again by the budgetary margins available. The measures will find space in “an emergency provision”, said Giorgetti, which could be the Work decree expected for May 1 in the Council of Ministers.

The government, the minister announced, “with a forthcoming emergency measure, will allocate the available budgetary margins to finance, for the current year, a new cut in social security contributions to be paid by employees with medium-low incomes and a raise of the fringe benefit limit for employees with children”. With these measures, the government intends to pursue “the dual purpose of increasing real household incomes and at the same time limiting the wage-price run-up, which would make the inflationary surge caused by energy and food prices more sustained over time, transforming it into a structural one”, he added.

The Council of Ministers convened for May 1st will find room for measures on taxation, labor and social policies of the Labor decree, on which the government intends to divert the 3.4 billion of the greater programmatic deficit expected for 2023. On the eve of the CDM, Sunday 30 April, the premier Giorgia Meloni will meet the trade unions together with Minister Giorgetti, the Minister of Labor and Social Policies Marina Calderone and the Undersecretaries to the Prime Minister, Alfredo Mantovano and Giovanbattista Fazzolari.
