Giletti when questioned by prosecutors in Florence does not go to Mentana: “There are events that cannot be resolved in a television studio”

The episode of the special Mentana dedicated to the stop of the show Non è l’Arena won’t be there for now. Massimo Giletti, upon leaving the Florence prosecutor’s office, announced his forfait saying he was involved in a “complex, difficult and delicate situation”. Skip to the moment the television appointment scheduled for Sunday on La7, where as a guest the Turin journalist would have shed light on the early closure of his program, which ended up in the storm after the alleged revelations of Salvatore Baiardo, the Graviano brothers’ handyman, and the recent interceptions that emerged from the investigation by the prosecutors of the Tuscan capital. In the telephone calls picked up by the investigators, a series of allusions and speculations by Baiardo would have emerged on vaunted links between the massacre mafia and politics. “There are events that cannot be resolved in a television studio: they must be dealt with in the places appointed to do so, i.e. the offices of a company, otherwise we risk ending up inside a courtroom,” said Giletti in a video explaining that he has “just come out of the Florence prosecutor’s office and this – he underlined – makes you understand the complex, difficult and delicate situation we are experiencing”. It is not the first time that Giletti has met the Florentine magistrates investigating the 1993 massacres: he had already been heard as a person informed about the events last December and February. While thanking Enrico Mentana, the presenter declines the invitation for the Sunday special: “I owe it above all to the magistrates who are working on this investigation”. A few hours earlier on Rtl 102.5 Giletti himself had said in an outburst: «in our country it is not easy to make a certain type of television, which disturbs those who live in buildings. When there is a delicate situation, we have a double duty to go to the correct offices, I did it». After this series of utterances, the director of the La7 newspaper accepted Giletti’s request to postpone the broadcast, announcing that he would “try again as soon as the further investigations that have begun allow for adequate television testimony”. Beyond the rumors about the declining ratings of the program and a rapprochement of Giletti with Rai, many speculate that the closure of Non è l’Arena would have been influenced by the investigations into the participation in the program of Salvatore Baiardo, the former ice cream maker friend of Filippo and Giuseppe Graviano, who would have helped them in their hiding. The latest fuss raised by Baiardo, which ended up under the scrutiny of the investigators, would concern an alleged photograph that would portray Silvio Berlusconi with the boss Giuseppe Graviano and general Francesco Delfino: an image that Baiardo in front of the prosecutors would have denied having, despite spoke in some overheard conversations. The allusions regarding unprecedented scenarios on the State-Mafia negotiation by the friend of the Gravianos are various. Furthermore, Baiardo, already a couple of months before the arrest of the boss Matteo Messina Denaro, in an interview with Non è l’Arena, said he was convinced that the fugitive would be captured after an agreement.
