An investigation cites testimonies of groping and inappropriate comments on the set of films and TV series

New sexual harassment allegations against Grard Depardieu: I am accusing the French actor, 74 years old 13 women who claim to have been groped or to have received comments of a sexual nature between 2004 and 2022. This was revealed by an investigation by the French site Mediapart which also explains how the abuses would have occurred on the sets of films or television productions and in public places. A legal representative of Depardieu, who has already been investigated for rape and sexual assaults, but has always pleaded innocent, said the actor formally denies any criminal charges.

The Mediapart investigation cites the testimonies of 13 women on the set of 11 films or TV series, but also the accounts of some witnesses. None of them, says the site, wanted to report it formally: Some have given up, others have not even thought about it. Reason? The feeling that their testimonies would weigh little in front of this monument of French cinema. And that could also mark the end of their careers.

Among the testimonies, that ofactress Sarah Brookswith Depardieu on the set of Marseille, Netflix’s first French series, in 2015. The 20-year-old actress said that when it was time to take a photo with the entire production, Depardieu le reached into the shorts, making a big bizarre gasp. She adds that she took the actor’s hand away for the first time, but he insisted, slipping it back into the young woman’s underwear and trying to feel her butt. I took it off him a second time and said out loud: there’s Gg (Depardieu) reaching his hands in my shorts. At that point he would have replied: So what? I thought you wanted to make it in the world of cinema?.

Everyone laughed – continues the actress in the testimony to the journalist Marine Turchi – I felt terrible: it was super humiliating. Similar testimonies have come from other actresses or extras and they all agree in saying that every time cast, directors or various productions have lent little if any listening to the victims, as if Depardieu were untouchable. Except for the director Fabien Ontenientewho confirms that he called the actor to order after some groping on the set of Turf.
