Gasoline, after the halt to the cut in excise duties, average prices rise by 17 cents. Antitrust requests documentation from Gdf

MILAN – In the first week of January, after the halt to the cut in excise duties, the average price of self-service petrol increased by 0.168 euros, about 17 cents. This is what the new data shows Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security which show that in the week between 1 and 8 January, in self-service vending machines, the average price recorded was 1.81 euros for a liter of petrol and 1.7 euros for a liter of diesel.

Numbers that do not take into account the distortions practiced on the service that have led to the peaks recorded in recent days, with diesel fuel which in some cases has broken through the 2.5 euro mark on the motorway, very far from the average recorded by the government. LPG is also growing, rising to 0.809 euros per litre, about 81 cents.

The price rises less than the excise duties

Even with the premises just made, i.e. that the average figure includes all the possible single excesses recorded in these days, and that these are data relating to self-service only, the result is that petrol rises (+17 cents) less than the increase in excise duties (18.3 cents including VAT). So much so that, as certified by the ministry’s tables, the net price (ie excluding excise duties and VAT) falls in January instead of rising, dropping to 75 cents per liter from 77 a week ago.

Antitrust requests documentation from the Guardia di Finanza

Meanwhile, the president of the Competition and Market Authority, Roberto Rustichelli, wrote to the Commander General of the Guardia di Finanza, Giuseppe Zafarana, asking for the cooperation of the Corps in order to acquire the documentation relating to the recent checks carried out on fuel prices, with particular reference to the violations ascertained. This can be read in a note from the Antitrust which will analyze whether or not there have been unfair commercial practices and violations of competition.
